FORT MEADE – Mr. Phillip J. Gillispie, 76, passed away Saturday, December 6, 2014 in Lakeland, FL. Mr. Gillispie was born September 18, 1938 in Fort Meade, FL where he lived for many years through his life. He was the retired payroll supervisor for US Agri-Chem, a citrus grower, cattleman, and accountant for the Gillispie famiy business, Diamond Z Ranch, Inc. Mr. Gillispie was a U.S. Army National Guard veteran, member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, Fort Meade, a 1956 graduate of Fort Meade High School, and a 1960 graduate of Florida Southern College.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia V. Gillispie; parents, Zebbie and Ethel Hopson Gillispie; and brother, Zebbie L. Gillispie.
Mr. Gillispie is survived by his two daughters; sister, Winifred Carriaga, St. Petersburg, FL; sisters-in-law, Paulette Gillispie, Fort Meade, FL and Faye Kearce, Inverness, FL; brother-in-law, Cline Jones, Inverness, FL; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m., Thursday, December 11, 2014 at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, 6210 Mt. Pisgah Rd., Fort Meade. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary with Steve Kavanaugh and Casey Kearse officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery.
