Mr. Joseph O. Weishaupt

April 1, 1930 — July 23, 2021

FORT MEADE - Mr. Joseph O. "Joe" Weishaupt, 91, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 23, 2021 in Lakeland, FL. Joe was born April 3, 1930 in Mackinaw, Illinois, to Joe and Minnie Sinn Weishaupt, and was the seventh of nine children. He honorably served with the U.S. Army during the Korean war, including a 14 month deployment in South Korea, attaining the rank of Sgt. 1st Class. Prior to his war duty, Joe married Margaret (Albritton) of Fort Meade on December 23, 1951. After returning from the war, they settled in Illinois where they had two children.

The family moved to Fort Meade in 1962 where Joe devotedly served as a member of the First United Methodist Church. In addition to sharing his knowledge and wisdom on numerous committees, Joe enjoyed singing in the adult choir for over 45 years. The cross in the Methodist sanctuary is a product of his artistic handwork and woodworking excellence. While employed as trim plant supervisor for Imperial Lumber Company in Bartow for 22 years, he also maintained his orange groves, which he continued working after his retirement in 1991.

Joe is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Margaret A. Weishaupt; son, Curtis Weishaupt and wife Heidi; daughter, Janice and husband Jim; sister, Elsie Goeken, Pekin, IL; grandchildren, Jonathan, Michael, Peter, Moriah, Nathaniel; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 28, 2021 in the sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church, 135 E. Broadway, Fort Meade, FL with Pastor Bill Baldwin and Mr. Connally Barnett officiating.
