Miss Thelma Lee Sturgis

FORT MEADE - Miss Thelma Lee Sturgis, 68, passed away Friday, December 24, 2021 in Lake Wales, FL. Thelma was born January 18, 1953 and was a lifelong resident of Fort Meade, where she graduated Fort Meade High School in 1971. She loved Fort Meade and the community, and loved to share her knowledge of its history and many family connections. Thelma was involved with the Friends of the Fort Meade Library, a lifetime member of the Fort Meade VFW Ladies Auxiliary, former member of the Fort Meade Historical Society, and played the role as the Town Cryer at several city Christmas gatherings.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd W. and Thelma Albritton Sturgis, and her friend, George Lester.

Thelma is survived by her friend and caregiver, Robert Fowler, many cousins, and a host of friends in the Fort Meade community.

A visititation will be held from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 7, 2021 at Hancock Funeral Home, 945 E. Broadway, Fort Meade, with memorial following in the funeral home chapel at 11:00 a.m.
