Mrs. Winifred Gillispie Cariaga

FORT MEADE - Mrs. Winifred Gillispie Cariaga, 83, passed away Thursday, August 9, 2018 at St. Anthony's Hospital in St. Petersburg, FL. Mrs. Cariaga was born June 3, 1935 in Fort Meade, FL, and was a longtime resident of Lakeland before residing in St. Petersburg for the last few years. She was a member of the graduating class of 1953 from Fort Meade High School, and of the the Baptist faith. Mrs. Cariaga spent many years as a caregiver for the elderly, and she loved to work in the flowers in her home garden.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Zebulon and Ethel Hopson Gillispie; husband, Leon B. Cariaga; son, Bradley L. Cariaga; brothers, Zebbie Gillispie and Phillip Gillispie; sister-in-law, Sylvia Gillispie.

She is survived by her daughters, Cathy Naabe and husband William, St. Petersburg, FL, Belinda Burger and husband Matthew, Tampa, FL; daughter-in-law, Rebecca Cariaga, Lakeland, FL; grandchildren, Jonathon Burger, Justin Burger, Alyssa Burger, Kaitlyn Cariaga, Cassandra Cariaga, Braden Cariaga, and Brian Alkire; nieces, Sheila, Lisa, Tonya, and nephew, Z.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 16, 2018 at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, 6210 Mt. Pisgah Rd., Fort Meade. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the church sanctuary, and interment will follow in the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing, may make contributions in Mrs. Cariaga's memory to the charity of their choice.
