Mr. J. Dewey Lanier

FORT MEADE - Mr. J. Dewey Lanier, 78, passed away Thursday, July 23, 2020 in Riverview, FL. Dewey was born May 15, 1942 in Bartow, FL and was a lifelong resident of Fort Meade FL where he worked for J.A. Stephens Fruit Co. for over 30 years. He also worked for U.S. Steel and IMC Fertilizer, a member of Fort Meade Masonic Lodge #160 F&AM, of the Baptist faith, and especially enjoyed spending time and talking with his friends.

Dewey was preceded in death by his parents, Lamb Dewey Lanier and Shellie McLeod Lanier; sister and brother-in-law, Sarah and Danny Russell; and grandson, Cody Castle.

He is survived by his son, Jason D. Lanier, Fort Meade, FL; daughter, Shellie Lanier Castle, Babson Park, FL; brother, Mack Lanier, Fort Meade, FL; grandchildren, Hollie Hadden, Emilie Rimes, Jessica Castle, McKinley Bullard, Natalie Lanier, Rachael Lanier; five great-grandchildren; four nephews and one niece; and his faithful companion, Bitty.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at Hancock Funeral Home, 945 East Broadway, Fort Meade, FL In lieu of flowers, those wishing, may make contributions in Dewey’s memory to: Fort Meade FFA Alumni, c/o Fort Meade High School, 700 N.
