LAKELAND - Mr. Stanley A. Moore, 96, a longtime resident of Lakeland, passed away Thursday, December 10, 2020. Mr. Moore was born October 2, 1924 in Wacousta, Michigan and moved to Lakeland in 2004 after previously being a winter visitor for over 30 years and resided in the Bonny Shores mobile home park with many of his longtime friends. At a young age, Mr. Moore dropped out of High School to join the U.S. Navy at the onset of WW II when he was 17 years old, and his mother had to sign for him to enlist. He spent the next several years, during the entire war on U.S. Naval Destroyer Ship escorts as a radio operator, and served in the North Atlantic, Pacific, and South Pacific.
After returning home after the war, he went on to become a successful insurance agent, and later drove commercial auto trucks, carrying the formerly made Oldsmobile cars nationwide. He served on the City Council in Olivet, MI, and was a member of the American Legion; a member of the Teamsters Local #580; and of the Church of Christ Faith. Mr. Moore loved life and especially loved bowling, baseball and fishing. He played and coached senior league slow pitch softball teams into his mid 80's, and played on many bowling leagues throughout the years. j
Mr. Moore was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew Orrin Moore and Esther Rood Moore; wife, Polly Moore; brother, Francis F. Haley; sister, Suzanne Emmons; great-grandson, Malachi Chance; and his longtime friend and Navy buddy, Mr. Harold D. Lamb.
He is survived by his five children, Pete Squibb, Lorraine Brogese, Patti Hennigan, Cheryl Moore, Orin Moore; eight grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Private family services will be held at a later date. As Mr. Moore loved fishing, for those wishing, donations may be made in his memory and participate in the 2021 Stanley A. Moore Memorial Tournament. More information may be found at:
