FORT MEADE – Mr. Thomas C. “Tommy” Shirley, 73, passed away Friday, March 22, 2024 at his home in Inglis, FL.  Tommy was born March 8, 1951 in Lakeland, FL and grew up in Fort Meade where he graduated from Fort Meade High School as a scholar athlete in 1969. He then continued his education and graduated from University of South Florida with a degree in Business Management.  He was one of the owners of his family citrus business, Shirley Groves, and later became a Real Estate Broker. Tommy was of the Baptist faith, loved hunting, fishing, being outdoors, and of course, Florida Gators Football.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Loyd C. and Gladys Durrance Shirley; nephew, Jesse Durrance Shirley; and many beloved aunts and uncles.

    Tommy is survived by his daughter, Leah Liguori and husband Chris, Palm Harbor, FL; grand-daughter, Paige Liguori;  loving companion, Susan Wright, Inglis, FL; brothers, Richard Shirley (and wife Faye), and Stuart Shirley. Tommy had many cousins who were all special and loved by him, including Katherine Durrance Anderson and Judge Dale Durrance who shared a special bond with him throughout his lifetime. 

      A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. -11:00 a.m., on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at the First Baptist Church, 307 E. Broadway, Fort Meade, FL.  A Memorial Service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the church sanctuary with   Pastor Kenny Slay  officiating.  For those who wish to make memorial contributions in Tommy’s name, they may be made to: Boston University’s CTE Research Center https://www.bu.edu/cte/financial-support/
